Legal mechanism of access to environmental information

Abstract
The article deals with legal mechanism of access to environmental information in the system of central government bodies. Legal regulation of activity of bodies of environmental monitoring system in relation to the Law of Ukraine “On access to public information” is considered. The legal status of bodies possessing information obtained as a result of environmental monitoring has been determined. The discrepancy between the legislation on environmental monitoring and legislation on access to public information has been identified. On the basis of the information obtained, the author concluded that it is necessary to develop new legislation on the environmental monitoring system with effective mechanisms for access to information.
