LES APPRENANTS D’ANGLAIS FACE À L’HUMOUR : LE CAS DES ÉTUDIANTS DES LANGUES ÉTRANGÈRES APPLIQUÉES

Abstract

It can be argued that humorous teaching aids – cartoons showing or evoking the world of work for example – are of considerable interest to learners of English for Business. But for such documents to reach their full potential, it is essential that the teacher takes into account the difficulties involved. This article puts forward a number of guidelines for teachers wishing to use this type of material. It is suggested that if students are helped to develop their comprehension of the devices used in humour, they will acquire some understanding of this aspect of the target culture.
