Les difficultés et les obstacles dans la traduction persane des oeuvres de Louis-Ferdinand Céline. Étude de cas : Voyage au bout de la nuit et Mort à crédit
Journal Title: Argotica - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
Translating Céline’s works and respecting their language, their musicality and the characteristic feature of the writer’s style is a daunting task, from which many translators recoil. Farhad Ghobraee completed the first book translation of this author in 1984 – more than half a century after it was first released – and published 10 years later in Iran Voyage au bout de la nuit [“Journey to the End of the Night”]. The second one was released in 2005, Mort à crédit [“Death on Credit”] translated by Mehdi Sahabi. Today we can see that what these translations have in common is the skills of the translators, who succeeded in making the Célinian style more comprehensible to the Iranian readers who are not familiar with Céline’s complete work. However, we can sometimes find gaps or differences from the original text in the Persian version, because the translator had to make a conscious or forced choice to respect the language and Persian cultural restrictions. The linguistic, lexical, cultural and religious problems related to the Persian language-culture did not allow him to translate exactly the original and forced him to use synonyms, circumlocutions or other means of adaptations in order to be published and read. These translation conditions in some cases, forced the translator to pro-duce a text, which was not quite faithful to the original.
