Abstract

Voluntary Depigmentation and Hair Extensions: A Critical Aspect of Artists Actors and Musicians in Cameroun Voluntary depigmentation and capillary extensions are means of improving or maintaining the physical appearance, which is generally included in the course of bodily transformations. Yet these practices, which are prevalent in Africa in general and Cameroon in particular, present both physical and psychological risks. It is with this in mind that Cameroonian musicians and comedians decry these phenomena in their works. This article deals with issues of voluntary depigmentation and hair extensions. After a brief presentation of the phenomena evoked, the various processes used in the texts of urban music and humorous work are studied by means of both lexicology and discourse analysis. It turns out that these artists use derision, invective, and irony to draw attention to these scourges. In contrast, they can through the praise conveyed a message valorization.
