Abstract

The article analyzes the features of the lexical-semantic field “time”, studies its structure, thematic groups of vocabulary in the designation of time segments, traces the connection between the philosophy of the author's worldview through the prism of time measurements with the linguistic means of its expression on the material of the autobiographical story of Mikhail Stelmakh “Geese-swans fly” have been analyzed. The article is devoted to the questions of structuring of the lexical-semantic field “time”, the temporal nominations in terms of phraseologisms, used in the story, are considered and described, as well as the examples of author's linguistic means on the designation of time segments formed on the basis of ethnographic observations. In the structure of the lexical-semantic field “time” three main components are defined. They are: the core time, center - words that denote time intervals and belong to the thematic groups “seasons”, “part of the day”, “names of periods of life”. The next is peripherial organization which includes 2 types. They are adjective-noun phrases, in which the word with the significance of temporality loses independence and acquires the shades of the meaning of the word with which it is combined, as well as elements of extra-fidelity unity that do not indicate temporality directly, but contribute to the understanding of the text by the reader, causing he has a number of associations: tactile, visual, auditory, olfactory and so on. To the periphery of the lexical-semantic field, “time” include tokens that denote time concepts, but at the same time lose content in combination with other words. In such sentences, temporality is predominantly expressed by adjectives. Occasionally there are sentences that do not have a direct clear semantic relationship with time concepts and pass from the lexical-semantic field to the associative, indicating time intervals in words that do not indicate temporality directly, but are directed to the internal interaction of the author with the reader in terms of temporality in the intuitive levels of perception of the text. Elements of the lexical-semantic field of temporality clearly demonstrate the author's style, describe in detail his feelings and experiences through the prism of the artistic-figurative ideological system, forming a peculiar code of author's perception perceived in metaphors. Because of complex of lexical-syntactical elements, which lead the reader to the perception and understanding of the temporal field through the influence on his subconscious, causing certain ideas and feelings, the reader perceives the work not as a certain external object, but as part of his own feelings, thoughts, experiences that arise and coexist in the linguistic consciousness outside the text. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the elements of the lexical-semantic field (LSF) “time” in the language of the autobiographical novel by M. Stelmakh. Its task: to define the structure of LSF “time”; to structure elements of LSF “time” according to lexical-semantic groups within the field. Topicality. Since the end of the nineteenth century, lexical-semantic fields are at the center of attention of researchers-linguists, because language is the mirror of the inner world of the speaker, his worldview, mental and national peculiarities, and in some cases characterizes the life of the era, its mood, specificity. In Soviet times, the language of creativity of many Ukrainian writers was left out of the attention of researchers, although often distinguished by bright, unusual author language means. The creation of Mikhail Stelmakh was also not the subject of study in the aspect of actualization of lexical-semantic fields important for the restoration of the national-language picture of the world. Also, the lexical-semantic field “time” as a specific means of author's perception of the world through language units which is the relevance of the proposed intelligence hasn’t been analyzed yet.
