Abstract
In the article the author focuses on Lt. Tomasz Neugebauer. This officer came from the Polish peasant borderland family. In 1932 he joined a military school, and three years later he was promoted to a lieutenant. Almost until the outbreak of the war he served in the 8 Anti–aircraft Artillery Division in Torun. In the Polish campaign of 1939 he took part in the defense of Warsaw, and after the capitulation he was sent to German POW camps.
