Abstract

With the declaration of the pandemic and increasing cases, Turkey has switched to distance education. For this reason, many university students had to return to their families. The pandemic and the distance education process have affected the social and family life of university students and their education life. In this research, it is aimed to reveal the difficulties and problems faced by university students who are doing their undergraduate education away from their families because of the pandemic, both because of the pandemic conditions and returning to their families. In this qualitative study the phenomenology design was used. The study group of the research comprises 14 undergraduate students who lived with their families again because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The participants were reached with the criterion sampling method, which is included in the purposive sampling method, and the interviews continued until the data were saturated. As a result; It has been revealed that the changes in the conditions and the environment have a direct impact on the mental and social well-being of university students, that the pandemic affects the educational life, social life and psychological state of university students in various ways, and that university students express the disadvantages of living with the family rather than the advantages of living with the family. To reduce the future anxiety of university students and to protect the quality of the education they receive, necessary health measures should be taken and face-to-face education should be started in universities, and guidance activities should be carried out for students and their families in this process.
