Journal Title: INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CURRENT RESEARCH IN MEDICAL SCIENCES - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Lutembacherʼs syndrome is very rare. In a study published in American Heart Journal in 1997, it was found that the incidence is- 0.001/10,00000.1 It is a combination of mitral stenosis(MS) and atrial septal defect(ASD), which can be either congenital or acquired. Mitral stenosis is generally acquired in this syndrome as ramification of rheumatic heart disease. Atrial septal defect can be congenital and can be iatrogenic, secondary to cardiac interventional procedures like mitral valvuloplasty.
