Management of pain in rheumatic diseases

Abstract

Chronic pain is one of main symptoms of majority of rheumatic diseases. Because more than seventy percent of population over fifty year-old suffer of rheumatic disorders, so they are most often reason of chronic pain syndromes. Every kind of pain (regardless of reason) lasting over three months should be called a chronic one. Knowledge of the mechanisms is very important in effective anti-pain therapy. In every case of chronic pain it is necessary to diagnose the reason of disease and to evaluate renal and liver function before application of analgesic treatment.<br>Currently strong opioids drugs as morphine, fentanyl, buprenorphine are commonly using in non-cancer treatment, however weak opioids as tramadol and codeine and non-opioids analgesics as paracetamol and NSAID (e.g diclofenac) remain first way drug treatment. The article presents currently view of pain treatment.
