MANAGEMENT OF SPEECH DISORDER IN CHILDREN THROUGH SHIROTHALAM

Abstract

Among various types of developmental disabilities, the prevalence of speech disorder in India is 9.6 percent occurs mostly between ages of 5-12 in school age children. Speech disorders of childhood includes apraxia of speech, cluttering, dysarthria. Amongst various speech disorders it is necessary to exclude mental defects by suitable intelligence tests and various forms of deafness. The defects of comprehension as well as expression can be due to organic disorders of nervous system of congenital origin including congenital cerebral diplegia, congenital hemiplegia and defects of the cranial nerve nuclei. For these disorders, there currently are no interventions, such as a pharmacological or surgical treatment, that can resolve the cause of the problem and thus result in substantial resolution of the child's disability. Thalam is redesigned as an Ayurveda therapy to cure conditions such as lack of memory, inability to concentrate, lack of willpower, etc. Thalam found to be having good effect on mental disabilities so being on speech as well. It is the process of retaining medicinal oil over the head. Thalam along with shaman therapy can be a boon for the children
