Managing Conflict Through Transformational Leadership Is Collaborative Style A Solution?

Abstract
Purpose: The behavior pattern of transformational leaders towards handling of conflict is investigated in this paper. Design/Methodology/Approach: Hierarchical regression was used on of a survey among 206 professionals holding leadership roles from Indian Information Technology organizations. Findings: Results show that the behavior pattern of Transformational leaders such as risk taking and the ability to understand others’ feelings contributed significantly towards collaborating style. The demographic factors like age and experience have a strong influence on the style. Research Limitations/Implications: The study was based on self rating questionnaire that limits checking of biasness due to social desirability. Also, the scope of regional culture influencing the relation among the variables remains desirable. Practical Implications: This paper shed light on the importance of transformational leadership in reaching win-win situation during conflict resolution through risk taking and understanding attitude that can be developed and encouraged through assessment centers for greater integrity at the workplace. Originality/Value: The significance of risk and feelings towards collaboration style of conflict handling is established.
