Materials and methods used for repairing damaged veneering porcelain in permanent complex prosthetic restorations – review of literature

Journal Title: Journal of Stomatology (Czasopismo Stomatologiczne) - Year 2013, Vol 66, Issue 2

Abstract

Introduction. Damage to veneering material of fixed prosthetics is a difficult problem in today’s dailypractice. However, considerable progress in the development of dental prosthetics allows meeting the expectations of both a doctor and a patient to have such damage repaired in a more satisfying manner. Intraoral repair of veneers of fixed dental restorations can be made with the use of the indirect method, i.e. in the form of composite veneers made in the dental technique laboratory, or the direct one – by preparing the damaged surface and applying composite materials that can be found in the kits available on the Polish market. Aim of study. To present the method of direct repairing of fixed prosthetic restorations. The analysis was made on the bases of Polish and foreign literature, as well as on the descriptions of materials used to rebuild the damaged veneering porcelain in complex restorations. Materials and methods. Research of literature available in medical basis index like: PubMed, Medline and Medical Polish Bibliography. Archiving, comparison and evaluation methods of reparing demage veneering porcelain in permanent prosthetic fillings. Previous laboratory studies, as well as clinical observations, emphasize the use of the appropriate materials for fixed prosthodontic veneering, which should meet the following requirements: reconstruction of the color and shape of the reconstructed teeth, abrasion resistance and influence of the oral cavity, mechanical strength and tightness of the connection between veneering material and the framework of metal prosthesis.
