Maternal-fetal complications in elderly pregnant women. San Jacinto de Buena Fe Health Center, 2020

Abstract

Elderly pregnancy represents a public health problem due to its repercussions on the mother-child binomial. Objective.To determine the maternal-fetal complications in elderly pregnant women treated at the San Jacinto de Buena Fe Type C Health Center during the period January and December 2020. Materials and methods.The observational, quantitative, retrospective, descriptive cross-sectional research design with a sample of 80 pregnant women over 35 years of age, as an instrument a data collection form thatconsisted of 12 items validated by an expert judgment was used. Results.The sociodemographic characteristics of interest in the study patients were age group 35-37 years with 67.2%, free union with 52.5%, grade of primary education with 46.3% and rural origin in 95 %; among maternal complications: premature rupture of membranes with 25%, hypertensive disorders in 16.2% and spontaneous abortion with 13.7%; fetal complications: prematurity with 17.5%, low birth weight with 17.5% and respiratory distress syndrome with 11.2%. Conclusion.It was possible to establish the sociodemographic characteristics of interest in the study sample, identify some risk factors for complications, and determine the complications that affect the mother and the child in older pregnancies
