Maternal immune activation leads to age-related behavioral and immunological changes in male rat offspring - the effect of antipsychotic drugs.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2012, Vol 64, Issue 6
Abstract
Prenatal immune system disturbances have been postulated to play an important role in pathogenesis of schizophrenia and related disorders. In the present study, we sought to answer the question whether behavioral changes in the neurodevelopmental model of schizophrenia in rats are accompanied by alterations in proliferative activity of splenocytes and pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine levels. Furthermore, the effects of two antipsychotic drugs on these parameters were determined.

Kynurenic acid and kynurenine aminotransferases in retinal aging and neurodegeneration.
The kynurenine aminotransferases (KATs) KAT I and KAT II are pivotal to the synthesis of kynurenic acid (KYNA), the only known endogenous glutamate receptor antagonist and neuroprotectant. KAT I and II have been found in...
Zinc deficiency alters responsiveness to antidepressant drugs in mice.
Background: There is some evidence coming from preclinical and clinical studies suggesting a relationship between dietary zinc intake and depressive symptoms. The aim of the study was to determine whether zinc deficiency...
Protective effects of histamine H(3)-receptor ligands in schizophrenic behaviors in experimental models.
Schizophrenia (SCZ) afflicts around 1% of the world's population with characteristic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and cognitive disorders. Several experimental studies in the past have indicted brain hista...
Potential pitfalls of propofol target controlled infusion delivery related to its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
Target controlled infusion (TCI) devices are increasingly used in clinical practice. These devices unquestionably aid optimization of drug dosage. However, it still remains to be determined if they sufficiently address d...
Rimonabant: an antagonist drug of the endocannabinoid system for the treatment of obesity.
Obesity, an ever-increasing problem in the industrialized world, has long been a target of research for a cure or, at least, control of its expansion. In the search for treatment, the recently discovered endocannabinoid...
