Mechanical properties of γ -TiAl alloy after shot peening
Journal Title: Вісник Тернопільського національного технічного університету - Year 2016, Vol 84, Issue 4
Abstract
Currently, the alloys based on the titanium aluminide are in the great demand in the aerospace industry. This research project studies the mechanical properties of the γ-TiAl alloy with a high content of niobium and the impact of shot peening processing is defined. Strengthening of the surface by shot peening, does not affect the geometry of the parts, but it hinders the development of fatigue processes. Shot peening method can not only provide the extension of construction elements’ operation period, but also enhances the mechanical properties of the alloy. Thus it can be stated that the higher durability is caused by the alteration in the structure of the surface layer.
