METHODOLOGY OF MATERIALS AND HIP ENDOPROSTHESIS COMPONENTS INVESTIGATIONS IN INOP

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 232, Issue 4

Abstract

This study contains the methodology of materials and hip endoprosthesis component investigations. Studies are realised in two stages. The first stage concerns the evaluation of the behaviour of material connections due to friction forces and wear resistance using a T-05 tester in distributed contact. The second stage contains tribological investigations of material connections in the hip simulator SBT-01 chosen in the first stage. The simulator is a prototype-testing machine designed and built in the Laboratory of Surface Engineering and Tribology of Metal Forming Institute. Research was extended to the analysis of surface topography and condition using a profilograph, optical microscope, and SEM. An examination of UHMWPE cup and CoCrMo alloy head was done. The authors have performed friction moments curves and calculated the work of friction for single cycles. In addition, the study obtained data on the wear of components and heat evolved in the friction process.
