THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GREASES WITH FILLERS IN THE DEEP DRAWING OF STEEL SHEETS

Abstract

The paper presents investigations into the influence of a solid lubricant being the filler in grease on the effectiveness of lubrication in the deep drawing of sheet metal with rigid tools. The lubrication effectiveness of grease mixtures was evaluated using the Erichsen universal hydraulic device. Four solid lubricants: MoS2, Sn, Sb203 and MIX were analysed. These fillers were added in the amount of 4% by wt. to calcium grease (machine grease 2). For comparison purposes, grease Litomos EP25 (considered to be one of the most effective greases for machine sliding pairs) and oil LAN-10 (commonly used in sheet-metal forming processes) were evaluated. Lubrication effectiveness was evaluated according to three criteria: the maximum stamping force at a constant diameter of the preform (a sheet metal disc), the stamping depth measured as the distance covered by the punch until the stamping fractured and the largest diameter of the sheet metal disc at which the stamping’s bottom would break off (the stamping would fracture). It was found that the lubrication effectiveness of the technological grease in the forming of steel sheets significantly depends its grade. The effectiveness is considerably higher for the grease than for the technological oil. Thanks to the modification of machine grease 2 with the fillers its lubrication effectiveness in the sheet metal forming process increased even more.
