METHODS OF ERGONYMIC STUDY

Abstract
The present article describes in details the methods and approaches of ergonymic lexicon study. The study of ergonyms, i.e. proper names of people’s groups with particular aim, was carried out in the course of cognitive onomastics, which priority task is to study the reflection of proper names in native speakers’ mentality. Therefore, this work combines traditional onomastics methods and approaches of the latest cognitive trends, which concern all the aspects of mental being of ergonyms. The purpose of the present work is to establish the leading methods of ergonymic lexicon study. The object is the methodology of ergonymic lexicon study. The subject is the introduction of the latest approaches to the study of ergonyms. The research of ergonyms consisted of three stages: prelinguistic, microlinguistic and metalinguistic. Every stage was accompanied by certain methods. All the methods represented in this work are divided into three main categories: general scientific, special linguistic and special onomastic methods. Proper attention is given to the method of free associative experiment and the method of semantic associative gestalts. Practical value of the present work consists in the opportunity to use the given methodology when studying any class of proper names.
