Methods of research to assess biodegradability of biomass materials

Abstract
In view of slow development of wind, geothermal and solar power engineering, biomass is the most important sustainable energy source in Poland. Biomass can be obtained from forest and agricultural areas, energy crops, or recovered from industrial and communal waste. The renewable power sector in Poland has high hopes associated with increased use of that energy source. The advent of new technologies associated with biomass utilization, supplementing the power management systems used to date, necessitates complex assessment of the environmental impacts and determination of ecologic effects obtainable owing to implementation of such technologies. In particular, it is necessary to develop an appropriate methodology for assessment of biodegradability of such materials.
