МЕТОДИЧНІ РЕКОМЕНДАЦІЇ ЩОДО НАВЧАННЯ УЧНІВ СТАРШИХ КЛАСІВ АНОТАЦІЙНОГО І РЕФЕРАТИВНОГО ПЕРЕКЛАДУ АНГЛОМОВНИХ ПУБЛІЦИСТИЧНИХ ТЕКСТІВ

Abstract
Teaching translation as mediation between languages is considered to be an essential part of linguistic higher education in Ukraine. Nevertheless, the current research along with the secondary school curriculum in the English language reveal the necessity of teaching translation to students at upper levels of school. Such a course could support the Projects of the Ukrainian Education Development Concept and Subject Oriented Training. Thus the present research serves to complete the lack of study aid in teaching translation at secondary school. Purpose. The purpose of this research is outlining the technology of teaching gist and abstract translation of magazine feature articles in English to senior students of secondary schools. Methods. The appropriate stage of school education, teaching hours, principles, arrangement forms of teaching gist and abstract translation, criteria of material selection and teaching stages and assessment forms are defined. The author also suggests basic principles of teacher-student interaction, the criteria of the gist and abstract translation assessment relevant to the 12-poin grading scale. Results. The author offers to fulfil teaching gist and abstract translation of publicistic texts in English to schoolchildren of upper forms of secondary schools within an elective course that can be held once a week. The course results can be successful when following the introductory, preparatory and main stagesof teaching. The teaching materials selected in accordance with requirements as for the language, topics, genre and length of the texts for translation and their relevance to the English teaching framework. The formative and summative forms of assessment are efficient to perform the level of development students’ abilities and skills in gist and abstract translation of magazine feature articles in English.
