Microgrid Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Approach
Journal Title: Journal of Advanced Research in Power Electronics & Power Systems - Year 2018, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
Microgrid BESS may be the panacea that is being sought to relieve utility grids from ageing and demand stress. This solution can also work to enhance the durability of present grid structure while working to remedy forthcoming challenges which may be peak demand, peak shaving, sustaining the high and low voltage fluctuations and future power requirements. Many variables govern the functionality of a microgrid BESS; the best solution should be chosen that matches with the current and growing future demands of power determined by the community it serves. Including the architecture on how microgrid BESS is used, it becomes imperative to focus on the battery storage technology as well as the manner it is being managed while it provides optimum service. This article provides a general layout of this subject and addresses the various aspects to be considered while defining, sourcing and use of any microgrid BESS solution.
