Abstract
The paper presents very briefly the first years of military pastoral care in Poland after the fall of communism. In the period after 1947 the communist authorities have tolerated the existence of what remains of pastoral military, but military priests were obliged to cooperate with the Political-Educational Department. Although political officers have made a substantial effort to atheisation the Polish Army, the effect was not expected, but rather was just one superficially. With the appointment by Pope John Paul II on 31 January 1991 of the Fr. Leszek Sławoj Głódź as Bishop of the Polish Military Ordinariat, ended almost 50 years period there has been no military Ordinariat structure and Bishop of the Catholic Church and Polish armed forces. The first decisions taken by Bishop Głódź were acts of legislation, personal appointments and set up military pastoral structure in Poland. This experience was useful for Orthodox and Evangelic Churches, which then created similar structures. The article also presents the role of Pope John Paul II in restoring of the military pastoral care in Poland. NB: The Military Ordinariat is a church structure's, like a bishop, who takes care of army staff. The Catholic Church has more than 30 military Ordinariats.
