Modeling and simulation of effective forces in the manipulation of cylindrical nanoparticles in a liquid medium
Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 4, Issue 10
Abstract
With the expansion in the use of the AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) nano-robot in the displacement of nanparticles, this article has focused on the effective forces in the displacement of cylindrical nanoparticles in liquid media. The effective forces in the displacement of spherical nanoparticles in a liquid medium with the help of an AFM nano-robot have been investigated. With the change of particle shape from spherical to cylindrical, the involved forces change; therefore, with the help of the simulations presented in this paper, these changes as well as the forces acting in a liquid medium have been investigated. The Van der Waals, surface adhesion and hydrodynamic forces that are effective in a liquid medium and on cylindrical particles have been explored, and the presented results in each section have been validated. Considering the extensive application of cylindrical nanoparticles displacement in MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) systems and also in the displacement of biological particles in liquid media, this article can improve the necessary conditions and the framework for a more profound study of cylindrical particles displacement in a liquid medium.
