Modified Microstrip Antenna with Defected Ground

Abstract

In this paper a novel rectangular microstrip antenna is presented. Proposed design is employing a modified structure of microstrip antenna with defected ground structure (DGS) to perform over a large return loss. In this paper, a new technique is introduced to provide 46dB return loss with satisfactory gain, directivity and radiation properties of microstrip antenna. The parameters which affect the performance of antenna in terms of frequency domain characteristics are investigated. It is printed on dielectric substrate of FR4 glass epoxy with relative permittivity of 4.4, thickness of 1.6 mm, a microstrip antenna is mounted on defected ground structure via a single feeding strip with Discrete port. Prototypes of these configurations were simulated in frequency range 0-2.5 GHz. Simulation result is calculated using computer simulation technology (CST) microwave studio 2010.
