Molecular methods applied in microbiological diagnostic
Journal Title: Mikologia Lekarska - Year 2007, Vol 14, Issue 4
Abstract
The significant development of molecular techniques has been observed in last decades. Most of molecular methods based on the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which enable amplification of millions copies of any fragment of the genome. The classical methods of detection and charac-terization of PCR product has been improved and the new ones has been invented, e.g. restriction fragment length analysis with the use of capilla-ry electrophoresis, quantitative PCR (Real-time PCR), automated sequencing, and the others. Molecular methods characterize high sensitivity and specificity, as well as relatively short performance time. Whenever the classical diagnostic methods are not enough precise and strongly time-consuming the application of molecular methods has been expected. In this paper we shortly described the most popular molecular methods, which are in use in routine and research microbiological laboratories.
