Moral Education and Instruction from Classical Ottoman to II. Mesrutiyet Period in Ottoman

Abstract

Human has to countinue his life as a member of his society from birth to death. Therefore one of human’s learning ways of his society’s traditions, rihgts and wrong is possible with moral education. There was an important place moral education in the Classical Ottoman period. Moral has been placed on the aim of education. It was necessary in terms of Islam, the religion of the nation. Ottoman Empire’s official religion Islam has demanded this. Therefore, moral education was processed in all subjects in this period. There wasn’t a special place in the curriculum. Likewise, Islam was the source of moral education in the Tanzimat period. But moral education was a special place in the curriculum in this period. Moral education given in the II. Mesrutiyet period was different both in content and the source from previous periods. There was the moral education of western influence as with all matters. In the moral education of this period, Western ethics and secular mind were predominant.
