MORFOMETRY CHARACTERIZATION OF ZEBÚ FEMALES AND IT’S CROSSED WITH “BLANCO OREJINEGRO, ROMOSINUANO AND ANGUS”
Journal Title: Revista MVZ Cordoba - Year 2005, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
To characterize and to determine some factors that could have a greater utility making decisions in a cattle industry, were considered quantitative measurements like the high of the animal, the hips width and qualitative measurements such as body condition score, angle buttock, udder, nipples and the way the animal stands. Variance analysis was carried out for the variables into each physiologic state (heifers, calves cows, pregnant calves cows, dry pregnant cows, and dry non pregnant cows) and they were considered the effects of the age of the animal (lineal and quadratic regression) and genetic group of the animal. The calves (9 to 12 months) had a weight average of 172.0 kg and the mature cows an average between 415 to 445 kg. The effect of genetic group was highly significant in the dry cows and the genetic groups with more weight were the Zebu and crossing BONxCebú, for the other physiologic states they were not statistical differences. For the heifers the BxC/CxB (n = 100) presented minor body condition score in front of the CCO/BRH (n = 28), RxC/CxR (n = 50) and 3/4Cx1/4A (n = 15). The dry cows genetic group, CCO/BRH (n = 328) was the one that presented the best body condition score. The dry pregnant cows showed differences between the genetic groups CCO/BRH (n = 273) and AxC/CxA (n = 332). In the calves cows, genetic group 3/ 4Cx1/4A (n = 91) obtained a major average to the other analyzed groups. The genetic group 3/4Cx1/4A showed the best registrations for measurements physical qualities in the matured cows, which confirms their productive potential for our agro-ecologycals conditions.
