MORPHOMETRY AND TOPONYMY OF THE HYDROLOGICAL OBJECTS IN THE NATIONAL NATURE PARK «TUZLOVSKIE LIMANY»

Abstract

Purpose. «Tuzlovskie limany» National Nature Park was created in 2010. The different genetic types of water bodies, a different number of geographical objects, different place names (hydronyms) in the park were indicated in the scientific literature and on the maps. The purpose of this paper is ordering of a total information about water obdjects within the national park. Data&Methods. In this paper were used geographical, analytical, comparative, cartographic, historical and cartographic research methods and routing. Morphometric parameters of water bodies established by the traditional method based on electronic maps GoogleEarth and paper maps of 1: 10,000 and 1: 25,000. Results. The definition of «liman» («estuary» in foreign literature, in fact, «liman» has a different meaning than «estuary») term is clarified and it’s compared to the terms «lake» and «water body». According to the morphological diagnostic features of liman it’s revealed that the territory of the NPP «Tuzlovskie limany» is presented by 13 limans, 6 of them are «primary» and 7 – «secondary». First ones have an accumulative form of coastal marine genesis in the base which is seaside spit, the second ones – liman spit or liman bars. The study proves once again the need for change geografical term «lake» to term «liman» about all the natural water bodies of Tuzly group on geografical maps and in the scientific literature. The morphometric characteristics of limans are given. Оn a water surface area they are divided into two large (72-87 км2): Alibey, Shagany, three medium (11,8-25,4 км2): Burnas, Karachaus, Khadzhider, and eight small (0,86-8,0 км2): Dzhantsheyskiy, Malyy Sasyk, Untitled, Magalevskiy, Martaza, Budury, Kurudiol, Solenyy. There are 19 mouth streams, among them 6 rivers (Khadzhider, Alkaliya, Sariyary, Magala, Martaza, Budury) and 13 ravines on the territory of NPP «Tuzlovskie limany». Retrospective analysis of hydronyms in the Park showed the need to correct limnonim «Bazaryan» (instead of «Solenyy»), to change of hydronyms «Budury» to «Budur», «Martaza» to «Murtaza», limnonym «Magalevskiy» to «Magalskiy». Limnonym «Solenyy» is proposed for small untitled liman near Primorsky village.
