Journal Title: Medycyna Ogólna i Nauki o Zdrowiu - Year 2013, Vol 19, Issue 4

Abstract

Due to intensive development, schoolchildren and teenagers need to be provided with special health care focused on prevention and health promotion. In the school environment, health care is executed by a school nurse whose duties include, among others, screening examinations and interpretation of their results which allows an early identification of health problems. The realization of the above-mentioned tasks helps the nurse observe children’s development and regularly analyze health problems that arise in that population which, in turn, facilitates planning professional health care. The aim of study was to present an analysis of most frequent health problems in children and teenagers based on schools in Lublin. The source of research material was “Pooled Analysis of Health Status in Schoolchildren”. School nurses keep such documentation based on screening tests results and information received from children and their parents. The material examined covered a 3-year period (2008–2011). The data concerning health status of schoolchildren and teenagers werecollected in an elementary school and a junior high school in Lublin. The results indicate that static diseases and disorders of the locomotor system are the most frequent among elementaryschool pupils while vision defects and eye diseases prevail in teenagers from junior high school. The presented analysis is a preliminary study and needs to be continued to collect data from a bigger study group.
