Abstract
Regardless of the type of a sports discipline and preventive measures, injuries in sports are an inherent part in an athlete’s career. They are unavoidable and should be minimized, and once they occur, a detailed diagnostics and the appropriate selection of therapy adapted to the needs and abilities of a sportsman should be applied. In the case of sports injuries caused by overload, fatigue or tissue wear, massage can be used as one of the forms of comprehensive physiotherapy. The type of massage, the methodology of the procedure and the method of its performance depend on the current state of a patient and always individually tailored to their needs. Massage does not have to be the sole and main therapeutic treatment, many times it is a part of the process of improving the performance of an athlete.
