Zastosowanie fizjoterapii w chorobie Buergera

Journal Title: Rehabilitacja w Praktyce - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 4

Abstract

Buerger’s disease (thromboangiitis obliterans, TAO) is an inflammatory, thrombotic and obstructive disorder of arteries and veins of limbs. In the course of the disease periods of the exacerbation and remission of the symptoms are observed. Typical manifestations of the disease are: cold and numb limbs, intermittent claudication, vasomotor disorders, the lack of the pulse on posterior tibial arteries of the feet and exertional limb pain. Mainly men aged 20 to 40 years smoking tobacco (90% of all cases) suffer from the disease. The causes of TAO have not been fully explained yet. However a strong correlation between TAO and tobacco smoking is clear. The improvement in the condition of patients is possible only when they stop smoking. Physiotherapy aimed at developing and improving collateral circulation, widening blood vessels and lowering the heightened muscle tension around them is needed in order to ensure effective treatment. Individually selected physical exercises, physical modalities and different forms of massage are underrated forms of physiotherapy in the treatment of chronic arterial incapacity and other vascular anomalies.
