Multidimensional analysis of the digital divide: Obstacles tohuman development in Venezuela
Journal Title: Prohominum - Year 2024, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
Technological innovations produced by organizations, the digital skills of users, and the capacity of the State to guarantee an adequate digital infrastructure, offer a range of opportunities that allow citizens to choose the life they want to live. However, there are factors associated with the socioeconomic and territorial situation that generate differencesin the use of technology, causing limitations in terms of the opportunities available to various sectors of the population; a phenomenon known as the digital divide. In this sense, the article presents the results of a study with a qualitative approach, documentary design and bibliographic research, with the purpose of analyzing the situation of Venezuela in terms of the multidimensionality of the digital divide and digitization of the economy, developing brief reflections on the main challenges that hinder human development in the country, taking into consideration the context of deep economic, social and political crisis that has generated high poverty and inequality. The main finding is that the lack of investment in digital infrastructure and deficiencies in public electricity services and coverage; limited access and connectivity due to socioeconomic factors; a low level of digital skills and insufficient use of ICTs are challenges that require effective public policies to promote equitable inclusion and strengthen the transformative potential of technologies in the sustainable development of Venezuela
