MYHAILO FIGOL: FEATURES OF THE CREATIVE PORTRAIT OF THE TEACHER, ARTIST AND SCIENTIST

Abstract
The article describes the scientific, pedagogical and creative activity of Carpathian artist Mihaylo Figol. The attention is paid for its achievements in various fields of artistic life of Prycarpattya, particularly in the establishment and functioning of separate art faculty of the Pedagogical Institute (now Prycapatskyi National University after V. Stefanik), studies of little-known pages of Ukrainian and foreign art, including thorough monograph “The Art of Ancient Galich”, the first writings about art works of artists of Prycarpattya, namely: creative way of Yaroslav Pstrak, Osip Sorohtei et al., about their exhibitions, catalogs of works, organizational assistance while opening Ivano-Frankivsk Art Museum (currently the Museum of Art of Prycarpattya). The paper also analyzes the creative portfolio of Michael Figol in the field of painting and graphics. Monumental paintings, some of which is a pride of private gallery that is located next to the house where he lived, prove his love to the history and culture of his native land. Most of the works of Myhailo Figol are dedicated to the historical events and famous historical persons. There is a number of interesting portraits of family, friends, contemporaries of the artist in his portfolio. Very peculiar are picturesque landscapes that show the different areas of our earth (from the outskirts of his native Galich and Krylos and Vorohta to the castles and waterfalls in the Czech Republic, Romania and the temples and exotic landscapes of India). The pictures of the artist were exhibited not only in Ukraine but also abroad. It is noted as well that the multifaceted work of Myhailo Figol in various artistic areas have contributed to the development of the artistic life of the region and art education in particular.
