Mykola Lozynskyi in the process of state creation of western Ukraine in the first term of 20th century

Abstract

The article determines the main directions of public and political activity of a well- known Galician social and political figure Mykola Lozynskyi. Political and diplomatic activity of M. Lozynskyi during the period of West Ukrainian People's Republic has been analyzed as well as his opinions concerning the perspectives of solving Ukrainian issues during the period of national liberation movement have been highlighted. It is stated that M. Lozynskyi suggests and defend the idea of state independence of the Ukrainians which had been appeared among the Ukrainian intellectuals as well as the new type of the Ukrainian patriot who lived with the idea of independence. Due to M. Lozynskyi, the purpose of the idea is the creation of its own state organism, its own independent Ukrainian national state in the ethnographic areas, which were settled by the Ukrainians. In his works there is also the idea of the reunion of the Ukrainians from both sides of the Zbruch. It is demonstrated that in the field of international legal issues Lozynskyi had been deeply exploring the fact of violation of rights of Ukrainian people from the side of Poland, where most western part of Ukrainian lands were found. Also he was interested in the imperialistic direction of the leading capitalist countries. It is confirmed that the main purpose of national liberation movement was to create the independent state. He could see the independent country was the main guarantor of free development of nation. During all his political activity, the scientist had been devoted to the ideas of building of independent Ukrainian State.
