Abstract
Stroiko T. The areas of development of the mining industry of Ukraine in the context of sustainable development. The article attempts to substantiate the directions of development of the mining industry of Ukraine in the context of sustainable development. Particularly problematic is the issue of transition to the principles of sustainable development for the extractive industry of Ukraine. In Ukraine, more than 70% of the volume of mining works is carried out in quarries. The further development of an open method of extraction is primarily due to the increase in the depth and area of quarries, the complication of mining and geological and mining technical conditions of development, and the increase of areas of alienated lands. All this takes place against the backdrop of growing demands for environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources. Mining industry in Ukraine is experiencing difficult times. In particular, the crisis and hostilities in eastern Ukraine have had a bad impact on coal mining. Almost all profitable mines are located in the conflict zone. This fact has had serious consequences for heavy industry, railways, and energy production in Ukraine, which resulted in the import of coal and energy in Russia through Russia, and reserve capacities declined in 2014. The future of the mining industry is more than dubious. On the one hand, Ukraine needs to modernize it, because production is not competitive or safe, which is also required by EU legislation (within five years). On the other hand, long-term prospects for coal as the main source of energy are not promising, and coal-fired power plants in Ukraine are mostly obsolete. They may be under severe pressure from the EU legislation on climate change in relation to greenhouse gases, which Ukraine also needs to implement (for two years). The decision of the tasks of transition of the mining industry on the basis of sustainable development is impossible without the creation of a system mechanism and state regulation of the industry. Its main purpose is gradual provision of prerequisites for the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies into the economic activities of the industry and reducing their negative environmental impact. Key words: mining, sustainable development, state regulation, environmentally friendly technologies, energy sources.
