Comparing The Color Gamuts Of Different Paperboard Surfaces Used In Package Printing.

Abstract
Package is to depict the product as well as it preserves it. When one looks at the product, one expects to see the image of it. As the product comes to the fore in the printed packages, quality of the print also gains significance. To get an image of the product as real-looking as possible will also indicate the quality of the packaging of the product. To this end, in this study, various printings were carried out with the offset printing machine Heidelberg SM 52, using 300 g/m2 Norm print cardboard, 300 g/m2 SBS carton, 210 g/m2 Reno De Medici (R.N.) cardboard and 360 g/m2 kraft cardboard. In these printings we used ink from TOYO Ink Hy Unity NEO ERP series. A test print page was prepared by using ECI2002 test scale and the L*a*b* values of the prints were measured with TECHKON SpektroDens spektrofotometer. The color gamut ICC profiles were obtained in the Profilemaker program upon having the scales read by the scale spectal reading device i1io. Then the sizes of the color gamut were measured by using the Chromix Color Think Pro 3.0 program. This way, in the offset printed product packages, the proximity of the printings conducted on different cardboards to the real image and how much space the printed product occupies in the visible color gamut were dealt with in a comparative fashion. At the end these applications, the color gamut of the compared cardboards were extracted and the particular cardboard having the image closest to the real one is identified.
