Crack initiation behavior of notched specimens on heat resistant steel under service type loading at high temperature
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 38
Abstract
Cracks at notches deserve special consideration in the design of steam turbine components. This work is addressed to investigate the crack initiation behavior a 10%Cr rotor steel with the help of notched specimens under service-type loading. A significant drifting down of the peak-values of axial deformation under constant amplitude load was observed. Crack initiation was evaluated with the help of the relationship between irreversible deformation energy and cycle number. Further, metallographic examinations were employed to characterize the superposition of creep and fatigue damage mechanisms. Both Neuber-hypothesis and von Mises equivalent strain at notch root were applied for lifetime prediction. Finally, the effectiveness of both methods is validated by comparing with experimental results

Computed Tomography analysis of damage in composites subjected to impact loading
The composites, used in the transportation engineering, include different classes with a wide range of materials and properties within each type. The following different typologies of composites have been investigated:...
Recent developments in multi-parametric three-dimensional stress field representation in plates weakened by cracks and notches
The paper deals with the three-dimensional nature and the multi-parametric representation of the stress field ahead of cracks and notches of different shape. Finite thickness plates are considered, under different...
A critical analysis of the Mises stress criterion used in frequency domain fatigue life prediction
Multiaxial fatigue failure criteria are formulated in time and frequency domain. The number of frequency domain criteria is rather small and the most popular one is the equivalent von Mises stress criterion. This...
Influence of different sizes of concrete and roller compacted concrete on double-K fracture parameters
Affected by physical properties of various components, characteristics and stress states of junction surface and other multiple factors, concrete, as a kind of multi-phase composite material, has complicated ...
Fatigue properties and fracture mechanism of load carrying type fillet joints with one-sided welding
The structures of the hydraulic excavator and the crane have numerous one-sided welded joints. However, attachments with box like structures are difficult to weld at both sides. Therefore, high accurate evalu...
