ECOPEDOLOGICAL RESEARCHES CONCERNING THE ESTABLISHING THE FEASIBILITY OF ROMANIAN AGRICULTURAL LANDS FOR IRRIGATION
Journal Title: The Annals of Valahia University of Târgoviste, Geographical Series - Year 2008, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
The irrigation techniques can be considered the main method used to increase production of the cultivated areas in Romania, especially in the Romanian Plain and Dobrogea Tableland, when the average temperature is of 9-110, annual average rainfall being 350-620 mm and reference evapotranspiration Thornthwaite (ETo-TH) of 700 mm. I.N.C.P.A.P.M.-I.C.P.A. Bucharest issued a methodology for soil study research that would precede irrigation construction, in order to eliminate the risks associated with irrigation implementation. The necessity of irrigation of the given fields was assessed using the “humidity deficit” indicator, which takes climatic conditions into account. A number of 6 classes of irrigation feasibility soils was established. Using this indicator it was concluded that the lands with very high humidity deficit of Dobrogea and the Eastern Romanian Plain are in great need of irrigation. Also, the terrains with high humidity deficit from the Moldavian Plain and from the Western Romanian Plain were found to be in need of moderate irrigation. The lands from the Western Plain, with a moderate humidity deficit have less irrigation needs.
