Effect of vitamin C and highly unsaturated fatty acids on sperm quality of goldfish (Carassius auratus)
Journal Title: Aquaculture, Aquarium, Conservation & Legislation - International Journal of the Bioflux Society - Year 2011, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
The aim of the work was to determine the effects of three different doses of ascorbic acid (0, 100, 1000 mg kg diet[sup]-1[/sup]) and highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA). They were evaluated on sperm quality of goldfish. The results of the study shown that vitamin C and HUFA have no significant (P>0.05) effect on sperm concentration, spermatocrit and sperm motility duration. Percentage motility of sperm in fish fed with diet C1000+HUFA was significantly higher than other groups (P<0.05) and there were no significant differences between other groups.
