Experimental investigation of fibre reinforced plastics with hybridlayups under high-velocity impact loads
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 29
Abstract
This paper deals with experimental investigations concerning energy dissipation capacity ofdifferent kinds of reinforcement fibres in monolithic and hybrid layups under high-velocity impact loads. Theinvestigated kinds of fibres are carbon, glass and basalt fibres. Therefore test panels, using the same thermosetresin, were built up and cured by autoclave processing. The fibre volume content of the test panels has beendetermined. Furthermore the influence of a separating layer at selected positions in the hybrid stacked panelswas investigated. The results show the influence and the energy dissipation capacity of each single kind of fibreand the enhanced properties for the hybrid layups by hybrid stacking sequences and the use of a separating corematerial.

Three-dimensional effects on cracked discs and plates under nominal Mode III loading
The existence of three-dimensional effects at cracks has been known for many years, but understanding has been limited, and for some situations still is. Understanding improved when the existence of corner po...
Estimation of fretting fatigue life using a multiaxial stress-based critical distance methodology
This work presents a methodology for life estimation of mechanical couplings subjected to fretting fatigue. In this approach, a stress-based multiaxial fatigue parameter is evaluated at a critical distance below t...
Characterization of mechanical damage in granite
This paper aims to illustrate the use of infrared thermography as a non-destructive and non-contact technique to observe the phenomenological manifestation of damage in granite under unconfined compression. It allo...
The notch effect on fracture of polyurethane materials
This paper investigates the fracture properties and notch effect of PUR materials with four different densities. The asymmetric semi-circular bend specimen was adapted to perform mixed mode fracture toughness tes...
Crack tip fields and mixed mode fracture behaviour of progressively drawn pearlitic steel
This paper deals with the influence of the cold drawing process on the fracture behaviour of pearlitic steels. To this end, fracture tests under axial loading were performed on steel wires with different drawing...
