Household saving in the US and Poland: facts, trends and determinants

Abstract
This article discusses the results of the analysis, based on the secondary resources review - the ‘theoretical’ literature and the most recent statistical data, of the changes in the household saving. The first section improves the understanding of the decline in household saving in the US and identifies the determinants of household saving habits deterioration. In addition, it discusses the importance of savings for the household financial stability and the process of economic growth. The second section investigates the similarities in Polish and American households saving behaviour. This paper reduces the scarcity of literature resources in this field and exhibits areas for further exploration.
