Impact response of balsa core sandwiches
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 30
Abstract
The benefits of resins nano-enhanced on the impact response of sandwich composites made by fiber glass/epoxy skins and balsa wood core were studied. Afterwards, the influence of the core's discontinuity was analyzed in terms of impact strength. For better dispersion and interface adhesion matrix/clay nanoclays were previously subjected to a silane treatment appropriate to the epoxy resin. Resins enhanced by nanoclays promote higher maximum impact loads, lower displacements and the best performance in terms of elastic recuperation. The core's discontinuity decreases the impact strength, but the resin enhanced by nanoclays promotes significant benefits.

Analysis of the causes of failure in 5Cr-1Mo pipes mounted in a preheating furnace
The oxidation resistance of iron-based alloys depends on the formation of thin protective films consisting of reaction products between the alloys and the ambient atmosphere. The high corrosion resistance of Fe-Cr-...
Fatigue crack growth behavior of Inconel 718 produced by selective laser melting
Additive layer manufacturing has recently gained a lot of interest due to the feasibility of producing metallic components directly from a computer-aided design file of the part. Selective laser melting, one of th...
Plastic flow equations for the local strain approach in the multiaxial case
This paper presents a system of plastic flow equations which uses and generalizes to the multiaxial case a number of concepts commonly employed in the so-called Local Strain Approach to low cycle fatigue. Eve...
Effect of molding processes on multiaxial fatigue strength in short fibre reinforced polymer
This study concerns the multiaxial static and fatigue strength properties. Short-glass-fibre-reinforced phenolic-resin composites (SGP) molded by injection and compression processes were subjected to tensiontorsio...
