Load history effects on fatigue crack propagation: Its effect on the R-curve for threshold
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 33
Abstract
The study deals with the effect of load history during threshold and fatigue crack propagation measurements in the near threshold regime. The compression pre cracking and the stepwise increasing load amplitude test was applied. The effects of pre-cracking as well as the effect of compression and tension overloads after the pre-cracking on the long crack threshold and on the R-curve of the threshold of stress intensity range are analysed.

Flaw-tolerance of nonlocal discrete systems and interpretationaccording to network theory
Discrete systems are modeled as a network of nodes (particles, molecules, or atoms) linked bynonlinear springs to simulate the action of van der Waals forces. Such systems are nonlocal if links connectingnon-adjace...
Crack path and fracture surface modifications in cement composites
There is a tremendous increase in the use of high strength and high performance self-consolidating cementitious composites due to their superior workability and mechanical strengths. Cement composites are qua...
Plastic zone evolution near a crack tip and its role in environmentally assisted cracking
This paper analyzes the effects of crack tip plastic strains and compressive residual stresses, created by fatigue pre-cracking, on environmentally assisted cracking of pearlitic steel subjected to localized anodic...
Competition between microstructure and defect in multiaxial high cycle fatigue
This study aims at providing a better understanding of the effects of both microstructure and defect on the high cycle fatigue behavior of metallic alloys using finite element simulations of polycrystalline aggre...
