MACRO-, MICROMORPHOLOGY AND MYXOCARPY IN TWO CULTIVATED SPECIES OF NEPETA L. (LAMIACEAE, NEPETOIDEAE)

Abstract

The results of a morphological and ultrastructural study of nutlet morphology in two varieties of Nepeta species (Nepetoideae, Lamiaceae) are investigated. N. cataria L. ‘Citriodora’ and N. grandiflora Bieb represent the studied species. Two main types of pericarp pattern, smooth and sculptured are found. A detailed description of the macro- and micromorphology of Nepeta’s fruits and SEM images for all taxa are provided. The mixocarphy phenomenon has also been noticed.
