SHORT DENTAL IMPLANTS — A VIABLE OPTION FOR IMPLANT-PROSTHETIC REHABILITATION IN POSTERIOR EDENTULOUS SIDES OF THE MANDIBLE

Abstract
Bone grafting procedures prior to implant placement in the posterior regions of mandible besides its advantages have an aggressive character and sometimes unapproved by patients. The goal of study was to optimize the implant-prosthetic rehabilitation of patients with severe atrophy in posterior region of mandible by the means of short dental implants. All implants have been placed using flapless technique, in one and two surgical steps. In order to appreciate the efficiency of this implants other two control groups with implants longer than 8mm were included in the study which were placed using the methods mentioned before. The following parameters have been analyzed: gingival phenotype, bone density, mechanical and biological stability, implants number on which the prosthesis were anchored, peri-implant bone resorption during this periods, crown-implant body ratio, success rate at one year after the initiation of prosthetic treatment. The obtained results demonstrate the efficiency and predictability of short implant usage along those with standard size, either using one or twosteps surgery.
