SPECIAL CLIMATIC EFFECTS IN THE URBAN ECOSYSTEM OF TÂRGOVIŞTE
Journal Title: The Annals of Valahia University of Târgoviste, Geographical Series - Year 2005, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
Depending on the characteristics of the general atmospheric circulation from one season to the next, on the thermic regime and the air transparency, above the urban space of Târgovişte Municipality different meteorological phenomena and processes take place. During the cold season of the year frost-related phenomena are frequent: white frost, fog, hoar frost, block frost, ice deposits on the aerial conductors, snow, snow storms, the appearing and the persistence of a snow layer. The frequency, the duration and the intensity of these special climatic phenomena are closely connected to the thermic regime of the winter, especially to the fact that the temperature in the air and at the surface of the earth goes down below 0° C. During the warm season other special meteorological phenomena and processes occur, such as torrential rains, hail, storms and others, the most important factors determining them being high temperatures (especially when the temperature goes beyond 30oC in the air and 60oC near the surface of the earth), as well as the sudden change of the thermic regime as a consequence of the advent of tropical or oceanic air. To know the regime of the special climatic phenomena that occur early or late outside the typical period of production (frost, white frost, fog, dew) presents a great importance for the life and for the social and economic activities in the urban area of Târgovişte Municipality. At the same time, it is important to consider the negative effects that these phenomena determine at the level of the agricultural terrains next to Târgovişte Municipality, which give products that supply the local market.
