SUPERIOR MESENTERIC ARTERY SYNDROME- A RARE CASE REPORT
Journal Title: Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 28
Abstract
Superior mesenteric artery(SMA) syndrome is a very rare, life-threatening gastro-vascular disorder characterised by compression of the third portion of the duodenum between the abdominal aorta (AA) and the overlying superior mesenteric artery. Recognition of SMA syndrome as a distinct clinical entity based on clinical examination and investigations is controversial. Looking at the rarity of the disease and very high mortality rate, the diagnosis of SMA syndrome should be kept in mind while treating any young patient with upper GI obstruction features. This case is being reported to emphasize the rare occurrence of SMA syndrome.
