Tests in tension-torsion conditions with descending sections of strain curve construction
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 24
Abstract
The paper is devoted to theoretical and experimental investigation of materials behavior on postcritical deformation stage (strain softening). Tests results, which confirm theoretical justification of specimen configuration impact on the possibility of creating descending sections of strain curve, are given. It is shown that, with sufficient stiffness of loading system, equilibrium postcritical deformation of materials is possible. It is confirmed in uniaxial tension tests with unloading on postcritical deformation stage. Test results on tension with torsion of thin-walled tubular specimens in strain softening conditions are adduced.

Defect detection of wire rope for oil well based on adaptive angle
This paper uses a digital image processing method which is based on texture feature of steel cable to detect the fracture of steel wire. At first, it uses a modified homomorphic filtering method to eliminate envi...
Complexity: a new paradigm for fracture mechanics
The so-called Complexity Sciences are a topic of fast growing interest inside the scientific community. Actually, researchers did not come to a definition of complexity, since it manifests itself in so many different way...
Numerical modelling of intergranular fracture in polycrystalline materials and grain size effects
In this paper, the phenomenon of intergranular fracture in polycrystalline materials is investigated using a nonlinear fracture mechanics approach. The nonlocal cohesive zone model (CZM) for finite thickness interfaces r...
Fatigue life estimation in welded joints under multiaxial loadings
Welded joints are frequently locations for cracks initiation and propagation that may cause fatigue failure of engineering structures. Biaxial or triaxial stress-strain states are present in the vicinity of welded joint...
Design optimization of cruciform specimens for biaxial fatigue loading
In order to correctly assess the biaxial fatigue material properties one must experimentally test different load conditions and stress levels. With the rise of new in-plane biaxial fatigue testing machines, using...
