The study of a defect evolution in iron under fatigue loading in gigacyclic fatigue regime
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 35
Abstract
The work is devoted to the study of the damage accumulation in iron under gigacyclic fatigue (VHCF) regime. The study of the mechanical properties of the samples with different state of life time existing was carried out on the base of the acoustic resonance method. The damage accumulation (porosity of the samples) was studied by the hydrostatic weighing method. The obtained results show the accumulation of porosity in the volume of the sample during fatigue loading and corresponding decrease of the elastic properties. A statistical model of damage accumulation was proposed in order to describe the damage accumulation process. The model describes the influence of the sample surface on the location of fatigue crack initiation.

Modelling of ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT) of welded joints and its effect on fatigue strength
Ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT) is a remarkable post-weld technique applying mechanical impacts in combination with ultrasound into the welded joints. In the present work, a 3D simulation method including w...
Fatigue crack initiation and propagation in lotus-type porous material
The investigation of fatigue strength of lotus-type structure with nodular cast iron as a base material using computational model is analysed in present study. The irregular pores distribution in transversal and&n...
Crack tip fields in elastic-plastic and mixed mode I+II+III conditions, finite elements simulations and modeling
This paper is devoted to the analysis of the load path effect on I+II+III mixed mode fatigue crack propagation in a 316L stainless steel. Experiments were conducted in mode I+II and in mode I+II+III. The same max...
Experimental and analytical study of cracks under biaxial fatigue
Most mechanical components experience multi-axial cyclic loading conditions during service. Experimental analysis of fatigue cracks under such conditions is not easy and most works tend to focus more on the s...
Microstructural characterisation related to hot tearing of Al-Cu sand mould castings
In this paper, the hot tearing behaviour in Al-(4.86)%Cu sand mould castings was preliminary investigated by means of microstructural examination and image analysis. A dog-bone pattern was employed for the realisation o...
