Vertical distribution of the root lesion nematode, Pratylenchus zeae infesting sugarcane in relation to soil type and growing season

Journal Title: Scientia Agriculturae - Year 2015, Vol 10, Issue 2

Abstract

Vertical distribution of the root lesion nematode, Pratylenchus zeae in soil of sugar cane (Saccharum officinalis) cv. GT.54-9 clarified that this nematode concentrated at a soil depth of 0-20 cm which correlated with the growth and distribution of sugar cane feeder roots of in silty clay loam and clay loam soils in winter and summer seasons. However, in clay loam, more nematodes migrated to a deeper depth (41-60 cm) in both seasons.
